3 Things to Successfully Navigate the Challenges of Life’s Changing Seasons

Awakening to a strange noise at 2.00 or 3.00 am was startling, to say the least. What was its origin? I got up and realized it was coming from the basement. However, when I tried to go down, I found that the basement was flooded. I could not get in. I found myself facing one of the challenges of life’s changing seasons.

You see, the season has changed and now it is spring. We have been experiencing a lot of rain. A friend said that it has been more than usual. Indeed, we got a lot in a short period. The downpour that led to the flooded basement had lasted several hours. This was after the rain had fallen daily for several days. Thus, it was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back.

Now, don’t get me wrong. There has been an upside to the rain. Everything is extra lush. As I go on my regular walks around the lake, I find myself smiling as I soak in the vibrancy of the green foliage while inhaling the scent of the flowers, pine trees, and other assorted vegetation. I feel good. Spring feels good. But the basement did not feel so good. What could I do?

I did three things that will help you successfully navigate the challenges of the life’s changing seasons; these are the seasons that affect your personal life.

The rain that precedes your spring, your growth, and new life may come in the form of personal loss. It could also be triggered by changes at work. You may even have the sinking feeling that you are on the wrong path. And there are others ways in which the rain of change come in your life.

Sometimes these changes seem manageable. However, there are other times when they feel like a deluge, and you wonder if it will ever stop. You feel overwhelmed and wonder where to turn.

Here are three things to do to successfully navigate the challenges of life’s changing seasons.

#1 Seek Guidance to Successfully Navigate the Challenges of Life’s Changing Seasons

When I was faced with the noise coming from my flooded basement at that hour of the morning, I was stumped. What could I do? Where could I turn? Whom could I call at that hour?

I sat down and prayed, asking God for wisdom and guidance. “Call the police department.” That’s what came to me. I took a deep breath and made the call.

It may seem like a strange thing to do. However, I live in a small town where the police are very helpful. Even if this were not the case, I would have done it. Why? Because I had asked God for guidance and this is how God had led.

A policeman came out and surveyed the situation. While he had an idea of what needed to be done, he decided that the fire department was best suited to execute the next steps. After all, no one want to get electrocuted early morning or any other time of the day. This brings us to the second thing you must do.

The challenges of life’s seasons may cause you to question, even to falter. But do not let them stop you or your growth. Call on God for guidance. Then do what God tells you to do. Use the support that is available to you. Take their advice. You will successfully navigate life’s challenges. How are you successfully navigating life’s challenges? #2 Be Willing to Get Support to Successfully Navigate the Challenges of Life’s Changing Seasons

You see, the situation was beyond me. The guidance was not that I could fix it, but that I had to seek support from the wider community. Even the policeman who arrived had to seek assistance, support, beyond himself and his department. He placed a call and the fire chief and his team responded.

Sometimes, it seems easier to talk yourself out of getting support. It feels like the wrong time to “bother” someone else. Initially I wondered, who could I call at that hour? This sense of bad timing can close you off to opportunities. You might also question their willingness to help and therefore, hesitate. You might even feel embarrassed because you believe you should be able to handle it yourself.

Yet, without the support of others, you flounder. As you absorb the rain which represents the challenges of life’s changing season you begin to feel overwhelmed. In that state, you are either stuck or make decisions that do not serve you well in the long term. Get the support you need and deserve. And there is one more thing you must do.

#3 Follow the Guidance/Advice You Receive — Simple but Easy to Overlook

That early morning, I received two sets of guidance. The first was from God, which I had followed. The second was from the policeman and the firemen who came to my home.

When the firemen arrived, they also assessed the situation. They identified and applied an immediate solution. Then they advised me on the next steps, which required the landlord’s action.

The following morning, I contacted the landlord, who sent his handyman. The handyman arrived and implemented the necessary fix.

Here is the thing. Amid the challenges brought by the changing season with its deluge of rainfall, the guidance was there for the asking, as was the support. However, I had to follow and use both.

The challenges of life’s seasons may cause you to question and even falter. However, do not let them hinder your progress or personal growth. Call on God for guidance. Then do what God tells you to do. Utilize the available support. Heed their advice. Do these three things and you will successfully navigate life’s challenges.
